Laundry Basket Dresser

This month hasn’t been my best so far and I haven’t been able to work on my DIY projects a lot yet. I did, however, manage to turn an Ikea Gorm Unit that had outlived its usefulness into a much needed laundry basket dresser.

So here’s what happened so far this month. My FIL died on April 29, so we went up North to attend his funeral on May 6. The next day, I had a medical appointment in Amsterdam. I was completely knackered when I got back home late that afternoon and knew I would have to take it easy for a couple of days.

Then there were more medical appointments, and my hand therapist made me a wrist splint, which I have to wear when I’m playing with my power tools. And when doing anything else that makes my wrist work hard. Like preparing food.

So here it is. Pretty, eh?

wristsplint-1LOL! It does look slightly better when I’m actually wearing it, though, and I have to say, it really helps my wrist, so I’m good with it.

wristsplint-2When shaping the splint, my hand therapist asked me to form a circle with my thumb and index finger, so I’d be able to actually hold my power tools with that hand.

wristsplint-3She told me to go home and have fun with my power tools, as next time she wants to know how this has been working for me, so we can decide on what kind of permanent wrist brace or splint I’m going to need.

So I set up my workshop and had fun playing with my power tools.

woodworkshopWhat I noticed so far is that I can work perfectly fine with this splint and my wrist really appreciates the support. However, the splint does take a beating and I’m not sure for how long this one will hold up. It might not even survive the three weeks until my next appointment. I’ve got lots of work to do.

So here’s another picture of my brand new laundry basket dresser. Because it’s the first thing I made using my new splint.

LaundryBasketDresserPity I forgot to take pictures when I was working on it. I’d have liked to show you exactly how to do it. Now you’ll just have to take my word for it that it was very easy.

Hmm, Liam, you are starting to resemble Frankenstein’s monster! Soon you will be able to scare the family away! Just teasing, glad the splint helps. Nice job once again. Take care, bud.
