Bendy

May is Ehlers-Danlos Awareness Month, so here’s a little poem I wrote about EDS the other day.

bendy

fingers dislocate
countless times
a day

shoulders sublux
only twice
or thrice

doorframes pop up
out of nowhere
to bar my way

tables, chairs and
chests of drawers
throw themselves
at me

I trip up the stairs
and lose my balance
standing still

black bruises
dot my skin
and veins may
pop at random

but I can easily
scratch my own back
and nibble my toes

And here’s a picture of the medical alert wallet card which I recieved in the mail the other day.

EDS-card

I was going to say, “that covers it all” but of course it doesn’t. That’s just the basics and the most important stuff for medical staff to know in case of emergency.

I hope I’ll never actually need that card.
